Atlantia Food Clinical Trials has a particular strength in providing human dietary intervention studies in the area of digestive health, in accordance with EFSA guidelines on scientific requirements for health claims related to gut and immune function (EFSA Journal 2011; 9(4):1984). We have extensive expertise in looking at digestive health in a variety of populations such as healthy, including infants and elderly, and in patient groups (e.g. Irritable Bowel Syndrome). Atlantia Food Clinical Trials has considerable experience in providing human clinical studies in mental health, in areas such as cognition, depression, stress, anxiety and mood. We can carry out human dietary intervention studies that look at various aspects of brain health, in accordance with EFSA guidelines on scientific requirements for health claims related to neurological and psychological function (EFSA Journal, 2012;10(7):2816). In light of EFSA rejections of all probiotics health claims to date, based largely on lack of strain characterisation and poorly designed human intervention studies, Atlantia has developed a “whole solution” for client companies to assist in getting a positive EFSA response for a probiotic.
Atlantia Food Clinical Trials has considerable experience in providing human clinical intervention studies to investigate the uptake of specific nutritional components, such as uptake of different forms of dietary protein or iron. We have carried out trials looking at different forms of protein, such as whey, casein, caeseinate, and micellar forms of protein for different applications, such as sports nutrition, sarcopenia in the elderly, and post-prandial acute studies. We also have experience in investigating the acute uptake/bioavailability of different formulations of iron.
